> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](/llms.txt). This markdown page mirrors [the canonical HTML page](/roadmap/).

A clear vision of a resilient Post Quantum store of value and communication layer is only as good as the plan and perseverance it’s backed up by.

Our Roadmap

## QRL 2.0

### The Next Generation

QRL 2.0 (Codenamed Project Zond)

Build with the next evolution of post-quantum secure distributed ledger technology.

QRL 2.0 eliminates the complexities of making your Ethereum or Solidity-based project post-quantum secure. With minimal adjustments, convert your existing Solidity code to Hyperion and deploy directly to our chain. It's fast, seamless, and future-proof. Show your customers you're not just keeping up. You're leading the charge on quantum security.

## Key Features

Key Features, at a glance

### Proof-of-Stake Blockchain

Zond runs on a scalable, energy-efficient proof-of-stake consensus, without compromising security or sustainability.

### EVM Smart Contract Capability

QRL 2.0 offers EVM capabilities, allowing developers to deploy powerful, flexible dApps within a quantum-secure architecture while maintaining a familiar Ethereum development experience.

Deploy your dApp on testnet.

### NIST-Approved DSA

QRL 2.0 integrates CRYSTALS-Dilithium/ML-DSA, a NIST-approved post-quantum digital signature algorithm, providing a secure foundation for protecting blockchain assets against future cryptographic threats using vetted, standardised encryption.

## Roadmap

### Beta-Testnet (Q1 2024)

### QRL Project Zond Testnet Version 1.0 (Q1 2025)

- Post-Quantum Cryptography Integration: Review the PQC landscape and integrate Dilithium. Completed.
- New Address Format: Implement and fully integrate the updated address structure. Completed.
- Consensus Optimization: Fine-tune consensus protocol parameters to ensure optimal system stability and performance. Completed.
- System Cleanup & Refinement: Update OPCode logic, enhance ZVM ecosystem tooling, and refactor the codebase for improved maintainability. Completed.
- Zond Web3 Wallet: Provide a web3 wallet for creating accounts, importing accounts and sending transactions over the Zond blockchain. Completed.

### QRL Project Zond Testnet Version 2.0 (Q1 2026)

- Further Post-Quantum Cryptography Integration: Complete integration of NIST-standardized ML-DSA-87 (formerly Dilithium 5) across the stack including go-qrllib, go-zond, qrysm, and deposit contracts, with refactored descriptor types and separated cryptography/wallet packages. Completed.
- Web3 Wallet Production Readiness: Finalize zond-web3-wallet with Argon2id-based encryption, lock/unlock and multi-account support, comprehensive RPC methods (wallet_addZondChain, wallet_switchZondChain, wallet_*Permissions, wallet_watchAsset), QRC20 token management, and multi-chain connectivity. Completed.
- Network Identity and Address Standardization: Implement QRL-specific address format with 3-byte cryptographic descriptors, "Q" prefix, and complete project-wide rebranding from Zond/Ethereum nomenclature (ERC→QRC, ETH→QRL/Planck/Shor denominations). Completed.
- Staking and Validator Infrastructure: Enhance staking deposit CLI with random mnemonic generation for new accounts, update deposit contract binary to support ML-DSA-87 signature sizes, and resolve validator CLI bugs for improved reliability. Completed.
- Final Testing and Code Freeze: Further testing before code freeze and the release of QRL Project Zond Testnet Version 2.0.

### QRL 2.0 Mainnet

- Network Performance Optimization: Refine and adjust network parameter values to ensure the system operates smoothly and efficiently. This involves analyzing current configurations, identifying potential bottlenecks, and implementing optimal settings that support reliable and high-performance network interactions.
- Comprehensive Security Audit & Review: A thorough audit of the project's code, with a focus on cryptography and security, to identify areas for improvement and ensure the overall quality of the codebase.

### Parallel QRL 2.0 Mainnet Upgrades and Enhancements

- Supplementary tooling: Provide supplementary tooling and initial support for Vortex IDE (Remix IDE) to streamline the development process.

### Post-Mainnet Upgrades and Enhancements

Following the successful launch of the mainnet, our focus will shift to continuous improvements and enhancements to ensure the QRL remains at the forefront of blockchain technology.

- Further Post-Quantum Cryptography Integration: Fully integrate the SPHINCS+ and potentially other post-quantum digital signature algorithms to bolster the system's resilience against quantum computing threats.

## Current Features

Looking at what we've built.

Our Current Features.

A visionary blockchain with digital asset security as a core value.

### A visionary blockchain with digital asset security as a core value

After being built from the ground up with post-quantum security at its foundation, the QRL went through two years of testing and multiple external audits before the release of mainnet.

### Crypto-agility with an extensible address format

The introduction and solidification of variable key heights and signature space allows QRL to ensure future compatibility with almost anything. Our blockchain includes the possibility to upgrade signature schemes (XMSS, SPHINCS, Falcon, + future) and through an address format update, support different cryptographic hash functions (SHA2_256, SHAKE_128, SHAKE256 etc).

### Full multi-platform wallet support

Desktop (Windows, Mac, and Linux) Mobile (iOS, Android) Hardware (Ledger Nano S/X) Browser

### Weighted threshold multisignature transactions

Advanced multisignature addresses & transactions allowing for a wide range of custodial scenarios for secure asset management.

### Ephemeral messaging system (EMS)

End-to-end (E2E) quantum secure ephemeral messaging system groundwork to distribute any data using Dilithium and Kyber which will be expanded at a future date into an globally decentralized network along side the QRL blockchain.

### File notarisation

Fraud prevention through the use of quantum secure notarisation easy accessible through a clean user interface.

### Documentation, API's and Tooling

Fully documented with API’s and tooling to get started building, deploying, and maintaining digital assets. Documentation (docs.theqrl.org) API’s (QRL Core, Explorer, [automatic]WalletAPI, and more) Tools & Helpers (qrl-cli, [wallet,node,explorer]-helpers) Project Zeus for rapid multi-platform prototype development
